Doris Leslie was the daughter of John Eiley, the very first alcalde (leader, before there was a village council system) of Placencia Village. John Eiley played an important role among those helping to shape Placencia’s destiny early in the 19th century. Doris Leslie was a powerful visionary and entrepreneur. She brought the first of many things to Placencia; such as the first post office, telephone, restaurant and hotel. Being close friends with Belize's very first Prime Minister, Honorable George Cadle Price, this allowed her to play also play a critical role in getting the first road pushed into Placencia. She also pushed to formalized the first airport in Placencia Village. Upon passing away, she was the very first passenger to land in Placencia, when her body was transported from Belize City to Placencia, via airplane. Charles B Leslie's father (Charles B Leslie Sr), son of Doris Leslie, grew up to become a pioneer of the sports fishing industry in Southern Belize. Because of this, Charles B Leslie grew up in the tourism industry, and watched it grew from its infancy to what it is today.
