This is the real world. Forrest Gump said pupushki happens. When I say pupushki, I mean #2, dudu...I don't want to say it out loud. Back on track: Statistics denotes that you will eventually lose your phone, break your phone, get your phone wet; you get the picture.

If you have a smartphone running the Android OS, such as the very popular Samsung line of phones, you can make a few simple settings in your phone that will back up all your contacts, photos and videos to the cloud, so, if you throw your phone after your boyfriend and it breaks, you can be assured that your contacts, photos, videos are safely backed up and can then be easily transferred to your new, upgraded model phone, that your boyfriend will be buying for you.

Here goes. Step 1: Open a Gmail account, if you don't have one already. It is the safest email system, it now allows for unlimited photo and video storage, and it’s FREE. Oh, and it will also backup all your contacts to that account. Step 2: Go to "settings" Step 3: Go to "User and backup" Step 4: Go to "Accounts" Step 5: Go to "+ Add account" Step 6: Go to "Google" Step 7: Enter your Gmail address - example: yolobelize@gmail.com - and follow the setup wizard instructions. Step 8: Upon final completion of setup, the wizard will ask you what all you want to sync. I recommend that you sync everything, so that when you do lose your phone, in whatever mishap, you don't have to stay up all night wondering about all the data you just lost, and only worry about the cool new phone your boyfriend will be buying for you.

Additional steps:

* If, by some chance, the wizard sets up your Gmail account and didn't give you the options to select what you want to sync, then go back to "Accounts" > "Google" > select the Gmail account you used and then select what you want synced to that Gmail account. PS: You can have more than one Gmail, Yahoo, Hotmail account in your phone; However, for the purpose of this exercise, and the fact that I am a huge fan of Google, I don't recommend using any other email client. Capiche?

In conclusion of the programing of your communications apparatus...you know what? I hate superlatives: With this one simple phone setting, you will never again lose your contacts, photos, videos etc... it will all be stored safely in the cloud. BTW, make sure you use a strong password and use your phone number for further security. Gmail will show you how to set that up. It's easy. Now, if you don't have a cool smartphone that has these settings, go and tell your boyfriend that you need one, cause it’s the right thing to do.
